Overview
As the most abundant substance on Earth and a critical ingredient of life, water should be a core component of any sound effects library. Recorded in the pristine outdoors of New Zealand by award-winning sound artist Dave Whitehead (Dune, District 9, The Lord of the Rings), Natural Water captures the majestic sound of water with modern quality that’s perfect for achieving realism or inspiring creative sound design.
Whitehead’s recordings encompass almost the entire water cycle, beginning with gently babbling streams that trickle softly over rocks to join swift rivers which flow through lakes and cascade over forest waterfalls before joining the sea. Ocean waves lap at beaches, break over tropical reefs, crash against sea walls and lighthouses, and explode up through rocky blowholes.
Venturing onto the open ocean, Whitehead captured a range of sea states from calm to heavy surf, including immersive surround recordings aboard a life raft and distant perspectives of violent, stormy seas. For even more variety, the library includes water dripping in caverns, an underground lake, rushing underwater currents, and ambiences captured at beach and cliffside houses.
